Arthur Chadwick
Arthur founded Chadwick & Son Orchids Inc in 1989 in Powhatan, VA with his father, Art Sr., who had been growing orchids as a hobby since 1945. Arthur has an Electrical Engineering degree from NC State and a Masters in Business from James Madison. Today, the company has 10 greenhouses and a retail store in Richmond.
Arthur has a monthly Q & A column on orchids in the Richmond Times Dispatch and, in 2005, the company was featured in Southern Living Magazine. Last year, Art and his father appeared on the Martha Stewart TV Show where they presented the host with a Cattleya orchid they had named for her. Other recipients of Chadwick hybrids include Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, Tipper Gore, Margaret Thatcher, and Queen Elizabeth II.
Chadwicks boards over 11,000 orchids for clients in the Richmond area including the collection of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Arthur spoke on ‘The Future of Standard Cattleyas’ at the 2005 World Orchid Conference in France and will be speaking on ‘Unifoliate Cattleya Species’ and the 2008 Western Australian Orchid Conference.
