Class 1: “American Heritage” (4 entries) - A design suggesting Early America using 2 black pedestals, (#1 measuring 42”h x 14” square top and #2 measuring 24”h x 16” square top) both staged on a black platform 4’ x 4’ x 12”h.. Draping permitted. Free standing pedestals. Designer’s choice of style and plant material.
Class 2: “European Ambiance” (4 entries) - A design in a traditional style in the manner of a European period. Exhibitor must state chosen period. Staged on a black pedestal 41”h x 16” square top provided by committee. Free standing pedestal. Designer's choice of plant material.
Class 3: “Asian Flair” (4 entries) - A design staged in front of a backboard panel 36”h x 30”w provided by committee. Panel may be incorporated into the design, staged on table 30” from floor. Designer’s choice of style and plant material..

SECTION B: “Festive Gathering”

Class 4: “Under the Stars” (4 entries) - A reflective design using a black frame 44”h x 28”w x 3 1/2”d staged on a black pedestal 32”h x 32”w x 11”d, provided by committee. Designer’s choice of plant material.
Class 5: “Time to Celebrate” (4 entries) - A design using a background panel 40”h x 30”w provided by committee, staged on table 30” from floor. Designer’s choice of style and plant material.
Class 6: “Down the Shore” (4 entries) - A multi-rhythmic design staged on a black round mesh pedestal 42”h x 12” diameter provided by committee. Draping or covering pedestal is permitted. Designer’s choice of plant material.

SECTION C: “Small Parties”

Class 7: “Lilliputian Fun” (4 entries) - Challenge class. A small design not to exceed 8” in h, w or d, using 3 or more of the 6 components supplied by committee, staged on a black cube 8 ”x 8” on table 30”from floor. Underlay permitted. Contact consultant for availability of components. Designer’s choice of plant material, all to be provided by exhibitor.
Class 8: “You and Me” (4 entries) - A miniature design, not to exceed 5” in h, w or d, staged in a lighted niche provided by committee. Contact consultant for precise measurements. Interior of niche to be covered by exhibitor. Designer’s choice of plant material.
Class 9: “Fairy Party” (4 entries) - A miniature vignette in a lighted niche provided by committee. Contact consultant for precise measurements. Interior of niche to be covered by exhibitor. Designer’s choice of plant material.

SECTION D: “Destination Party” Club Competition

Class 13: “Join me on the Porch” (4 entries) - A tray design for two. Tray not to exceed 22” long x 18” wide, staged on a 30” round table 30” from floor covered with an ivory table cloth. Both table and table cloth provided by committee. Exhibitor may add underlay. Designer’s choice of plant material.

DIVISION II - HORTICULTURE: “GARDEN PARADISE”

Class 39: Dish Garden of Foliage and / or Flowering Plants. Minimum of 3 plants, accessories are permitted. Diagram of planting with names required.

.DIVISION III – SPECIAL EXHIBITS: “SPECIAL GARDENS”

SECTION A: Educational Exhibits – “ Gardens of Contentment, Gardens of Containment” Eligible for Educational Award

Exhibit 2: “A Salute to GCNJ’s Native Plant History”, Preserving N.J.’s native plants.
Exhibit 3: “Someone’s Been Eating My Forest”, A display identifying the causes of our declining forests and how these causes affect biodiversity.

SECTION B: Artistic Crafts – “Garden Accents”
Eligible for Artistic Craft Award. Fresh and/or dried plant material may be used.

Class 1: “Picnic Accents” (4 entries) - A decorated basket no greater than 18” in width and depth provided by exhibitor, staged on a table 30” from floor. An underlay may be permitted.
Class 2: “The Perfect Spot” (4 entries) - A wreath no greater than 24” in diameter, to be hung on a white trellised backboard.
Class 3: “No Garden Gnomes Here!” (4 entries) - A garden sculpture not to exceed 36” in height, enhanced with plant material.. Staged on a black pedestal 31” h x 15 1/2” square top.

SECTION C: Garden Photography - “Welcome to my Garden”

Eligible for NGC Special Award
An exhibit of 8” x 10” photographs each in 11” x 14” mat with hanger to be hung by committee. Must pre-register with the consultant by January 14, 2008. Only one entry per person per category.

SECTION D: Commercial Exhibits (competitive)
Eligible for GCNJ Home and Garden Special Award . Fresh and/or dried plant material may be used.

Class 7: “Windows to the World” (4 entries) - A display window provided by Renewal by Anderson to be landscaped / decorated by garden club member/s. Support for display window must be covered by exhibitor/s. Contact consultant for size and style of window. A stipend will be offered to the participating exhibitor/s.

SECTION E: Youth – “Let the Good Times Roll’

Pre-registration for all classes is mandatory. Some classes will have limited entries. All classes may be subdivided by age: 5-8 years old, 9-11 and 12 and over. One Youth Award per age group per division.
E-1: Youth Design Division – “Party at the Amusement Park” Eligible for Youth Award (3)
Class 8: “Ride the Roller Coaster” (limited entries) - A design staged on a 15”w x 15”d section of a table, white underlay provided by committee. Overlay may be used. Designer’s choice of plant material.
Class 9: “My Favorite Ride” (limited entries) - A small design not to exceed 8” in h, w or d. The ride must be identified on a 3 x 5 card. Designer’s choice of plant material and other components.

E-2: Youth Horticulture Division – “Circus, Circus” Eligible for Youth Award (3)
Class 10: “Three Ring Circus” (limited entries) A dish garden not to exceed 10” in diameter containing 3 or more plants. Plants must have been planted by exhibitor and grown together for at least 3 weeks.
Class 11: “Lion Tamer” Challenge Plant, Lady fern – A Native Plant Athyrium felix femina distributed at the October meeting at Holly House.

E-3: Youth Artistic Crafts – “Happy Birthday to You”
Eligible for GCNJ Youth Award for Creative Achievement (6)
Class 12: “Caribbean Party” (limit entries) A small piece of furniture using some plant material and other components. Allotted space: 8” x 8” x 8”
Class 13: “Outer Space Theme Party” An imaginative outdoor scene or sculpture using recyclable materials staged on a ceramic tile no larger than 8”. Some plant material must be incorporated.

General Rules:
1. All classes open to public with exception of class 10, Division I.
2. Judging based on NGC Standard System of Awarding by NGC Accredited Flower Show Judges; to begin at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 14, 2008. Show will open at completion of judging.
3. All entries received on Wednesday, February 13 between 9 am - 3 pm; designs only on Thursday, February 14 between 8:00am – 9:30 am. Enter building through door with blue awning.
4. All tabletops covered with white cloth and to the floor with skirting by MacEvents.
5. All properties must be removed at the show closing on Sunday, February 17 at 6 pm but not before.
6. Each entry to be judged must be the work of one exhibitor, except where noted.
7. Exhibitors may enter more than one class or subclass, but only one exhibit per class or sub-class. Exception: See rule # 2 under Horticulture.
8. Limited space prohibits more detailed information. Please consult Handbook for Flower Shows, 2007 or Class Consultant.

Design Rules:
1. No artificial flowers, foliage, fruit or vegetables permitted.
2. Fresh plant material may not be treated in any manner.
3. Some plant material must be used in every exhibit.
4. All plant material must be listed on a 3” x 5” card.
5. Exhibitors are responsible for keeping their designs in good condition.
6. Landscapes or scenes are not permitted in Design Division.
7. Living members of the Animal Kingdom are not permitted in the Design Division.

Horticulture Rules:
1. Specimens must be fresh plant material grown by the exhibitor and must be NAMED, giving genus and species; variety/cultivar provided when available. Common name may be added.
2. Exhibitor may make more than one entry per class or sub-class, if each is a different genus, species, variety, cultivar, type, form, size or color.
3. Committee may subdivide classes.
4. Container-grown plants must have been in exhibitor’s possession at least 90 days; multiple planting growing together for at least 6 weeks.
5. Containers for cut specimens to be provided by the committee.
6. Cut specimens should have no foliage below the water line.
7. Wedging material of bubble wrap will be used.

NATIONAL GARDEN CLUB AWARDS
Award of Design Excellence may be awarded to the highest scoring exhibit in the entire Design Division excluding Section D, Class 10. The exhibit must be a blue ribbon winner scoring 95 or above. Only one may be awarded..
Designer’s Choice Award may be awarded to a blue ribbon winner scoring 95 or above in Division I, Section A- Classes 1, 2 and 3 and Section B- Classes 4, 5 and 6. Two may be awarded - only one in each section.
Table Artistry Award may be awarded to a blue ribbon winner scoring 95 or above in Division I, Section E- Classes 11, 12 and 13. Only one may be awarded.
Petite Award may be awarded to a blue ribbon winner scoring 95 or above in Division I, Section C- Classes 7, 8 and 9. Only one may be awarded.
Club Competition Award may be awarded to a blue ribbon winner scoring 95 or above in Division I, Section D- Class 10. Only one may be awarded.
Award of Horticultural Excellence may be awarded to the highest scoring exhibit in the entire Horticulture Division. Exhibit must be a NAMED blue ribbon winner scoring 95 or above. Only one may be awarded.
Arboreal Award may be awarded to a NAMED blue ribbon winner scoring 95 or above in Division II, Sections A and B. Two may be awarded - only one in each Section.
Award of Merit may be awarded to a NAMED blue ribbon winner scoring 95 or above in Division II, Sections C, D, E, F and G. Five may be awarded – only one in each Section.
Educational Award may be awarded to a blue ribbon winner scoring 95 or above with the exhibit a minimum of 18 sq. ft. in Division III, Section A – Exhibits 1, 2 and 3. Only one may be awarded.
Artistic Craft Award may be awarded to a blue ribbon winner scoring 95 or above in Division III, Section B- Classes 1, 2 and 3. Only one may be awarded. Exhibit must contain plant material.
Youth Award may be awarded to a blue ribbon winner scoring 90 or above in each age category in Division III Section E: E-1 Design (3 awards), Classes 8 and 9; E-2 Horticulture (3 awards), Classes 10 and 11;
GCNJ AWARDS
.GCNJ Growing Together Award may be awarded to the highest rated blue ribbon
winner in Division II, Section H – Classes 38, 39 and 40.
GCNJ Home and Garden Special Award may be awarded to the blue ribbon winner in Division III, Section D, Class 7 for outstanding design and horticultural skills.

GCNJ YOUTH AWARD FOR CREATIVE ACHIEVEMENT
These may be awarded to a blue ribbon winner scoring 90 and above in Division III, Section E-3, Classes 12 and 13. Only one may be awarded in each age category for a total of 6 awards.
NGC SPECIAL AWARDS
These may be awarded by the committee to a meritorious exhibit(s) in Garden Photography, Division III, Section C, Classes 4, 5 and 6.
