NOW, AN AFFORDABLE VACATION CABIN
Wednesday, January 2, 2008
Family hankering for a cabin on a sparkling lake or tucked within mist-kissed mountains? Concerned that a vacation chalet is somewhat beyond your economic reach? Not to worry because an affordable solution exists----a travel trailer.
What might have seemed an unlikely alternative a few years ago has become a viable solution to many vacationing Americans. And the added good news is that this RV approach qualifies as a second home for tax purposes.
Today’s modern travel trailers, with slide rooms that create enormous space, impart affordable flexibility. That enables a family to move to any other location it chooses without the worry, expense and hassle of selling a fixed facility. Such a move could happen after several years at one location or it could be a different venue each vacation season. Either way, a family achieves affordable flexibility through a travel trailer.
The economic good news continues with the realization that a travel trailer enables a family to access a vacation facility at less cost than a cabin because property taxes are eliminated.
Although that campground placement does involve space rent, that expense, coupled with the average travel trailer cost of, say, $25,000 or less depending on family size and overall space requirements, means a considerably lower investment than land/cabin purchase and associated property taxes.
Don’t overlook the benefit of construction quality. Modern travel trailers are constructed according to building and electrical codes, whereas an existing cabin might require additional expenditures to achieve compliance, often a condition of the sale.
Another, perhaps less obvious, advantage to travel trailer use involves movement and placement. A family opting for a travel trailer as a vacation facility doesn’t have to tow the unit or set it up themselves, An RV dealer can do that and thus the question of a towing vehicle with its associated expense doesn’t necessarily arise.
Safety is another factor to consider. Campgrounds are generally safe locations, many of which have extensive facilities for families with children. And they offer a sense of community with amenities. As picturesque as it might appear, a cabin tucked away somewhere doesn’t really measure up on all the important comparisons: safety, flexibility and cost.
So if a vacation cabin rather than hitting the high road beckons, investigate the many advantages of deploying a travel trailer at your favorite getaway spot. Yes, some dreams can come true.
