ON THE GO WITH AN EASY TOW
Monday, December 18, 2006
RVing doesn’t have to mean hauling with a big rig up front. Visitors to the 18th Annual Fall New Jersey RV Show, October 6 - 8, 2006, New Jersey Convention Center, Edison, NJ, will discover that lite weights----travel trailers and camping trailers----provide an easy tow.
Attendees will be able to choose from a variety of folding camping trailers and larger travel trailers, each with important features. Increasingly popular, however, are folding campers trailers.
Wanna know why? Consider what many RV dealers say.
The popularity of such lite weights is influenced, in part, by the ban many communities place on residential parking of large RVs, unless they are garage-able. Unlike travel trailers, folding camping trailers are garage-able – likely saving hundreds of dollars each year in storage fees, maintenance costs, and lost resale value.
Travel trailers---necessary to some RVers----nevertheless require larger tow vehicles with low fuel efficiency – an expense that’s incurred even when not towing. Folding camping trailers can be towed by smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles.
Also, large tow vehicle and travel trailer combinations can be difficult and time consuming to maneuver into many campsites – especially secluded or more natural sites. By contrast, folding camping trailers are far easier to maneuver – that means less time spent setting up camp and more time taking it easy.
And the big news is that today’s folding camping trailers offer large comfortable sleeping areas to private bathrooms and complete kitchens, from inside entertainment to outside cooking.
Ken Jenner, Kadco Trailer Sales, 1214 Route 130, Robbinsville, NJ, pointed to his Jayco Jay Series of folding trailers, as an example.
“Easily pulled by standard autos and SUVs,” said Jenner, “these ‘pop ups,’ as they are often called, are amazing well equipped.”
Jenner mentioned that standard equipment includes coordinated furniture, a dinette, a 6-gallon water heater, stainless steel sink and faucet, stainless steel carryout stove, 20-pound propane gas bottle, an outside shower, a hookup for city water, 12V electrical system with 20-amp. 110V converter, a 17-gallon fresh water system with 12V demand pump, a Porta-potti storage cabinet and a 2-cubic foot 3-way gas/electric refrigerator.
Scott Hayden, Hitcharama 4121 Route 42, Turnersville, NJ, noted that Fleetwood’s American
Series of folding camping trailers also provides considerable opportunities for easy tow RVing.
“We hear it more every day,” said Hayden, “avid campers want the comforts and conveniences of a large travel trailer, but in an easy to tow, stow, and own RV. More and more RV buyers are finding that Fleetwood folding camping trailers offer comparable comforts and conveniences in an RV that is far easier to own than a travel trailer.”
For example, among Fleetwood’s fleet of camping trailers is 1 model under 1,000 pounds, 5 models at or under 1,800 pounds, 11 models at or under 2,500 pounds and 15 models at or under 3,000 pounds.
Nevertheless, some RVers will prefer travel trailers and for them the show offers plenty of choice. For example, Kadco Trailer Sales also presents the Jayco Jay Feather Sport, billed as the nation’s number 1 lite weight travel trailer. It features a 3-burner range with 9000-BTU SuperBurner and piezo igniter, a range hood with light and exhaust fan and an oversized oven, a 5-cubic foot flush-mount refrigerator, sink/cutting board cover, high-rise mixing faucet and a microwave oven with carousel.
Oh, there’s more. Ed Hutchinson Sr., White Horse Leisure, Inc., 980 N Blackhorse Pike (Route 42), Williamstown, NJ, said the folks at Sunny Brook RV have a word or two about lite weight travel trailers, particularly their Sunset Creek line.
“They set the standard high,” said Hutchinson. “That's why they created and developed the AX5 aluminum-framed construction. This ultra-light structure means a smoother ride, less gas consumption, and a stronger body. Sunny Brook RV pioneered the aluminum Superstructure over 10 years ago because they care about quality. So if you're looking for the best built trailers in this market, see what's under the surface.”
Show attendees must be sure to check out the Cherokee line by Forest River on display by Hitcharama. Said Hayden, “Looking for a travel trailer with more than one slideout, close to 30 feet in length, yet light enough for your truck to haul? Cherokee Lite offers you just that. Cherokee Lites are innovatively designed to make towing and hauling easier for both you and your vehicle. Light-weight, but built with the same solid construction as Cherokee’s Standard and Wolf Pack models.”
Adding to the argument for lite weights is Hayden’s comment about Forest River’s Surveyor line. “Lightweight travel trailers have grown very popular in recent years for one reason . . . they simply make sense. No longer is it necessary to invest in a gas-guzzling tow vehicle to enjoy a retreat! In fact, many of the minivans, SUVs and small V-8s you drive everyday will easily tow a Surveyor! Surveyor utilizes construction techniques that greatly reduce weight while providing incredible durability and strength. In addition, aerodynamics, low centers of gravity and independent torsion ride suspension ensures superior towing and tracking. It all adds up to an enjoyable, carefree adventure.”
So go lightly to the 18th Annual Fall New Jersey RV Show, October 6 - 8, 2006, New Jersey Convention Center, Edison, NJ, and check out how easily you can be an RVer on the go without the big tow.
