ROOM REDECORATING TO MAJOR RENOVATION

Monday, January 28, 2008

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Whether your needs are as simple as replacing a carpet or as ambitious as increasing energy efficiency, the specialists at MAC Events 5th Annual Ocean County Home & Remodeling Show will offer solutions to meet your home improvement needs when the show opens February 8th at the Ritacco Center.

“The Ocean County Home & Remodeling Show’s more than 150 exhibitors include many of the area’s top craftspeople and home improvement retailers and cover just about anything you can think of to improve your home,” said show director James McLaughlin, president of Spring Lake-based MAC Events.

The show, which runs through February 10th, also features Doug Wilson, host of The Learning Channel’s Moving Up and a frequent guest interior designer on TLC’s Trading Places.

The show covers a broad range of home improvement specialties and products from many of the area’s most innovative manufacturers and sellers of home furnishings, window treatments, kitchen cabinetry, appliances, security systems, air conditioning and heating systems, indoor and outdoor furniture, pools and spas and cooking products. Specialists in architecture and space planning, interior and landscape design and healthy cooking will share their expertise.

Long-established area companies such as Siperstein’s Paint & Decorating Centers, with six stores in Ocean and Monmouth counties, will offer expertise throughout the three-day show.

Respected national manufacturers that offer proven energy-efficient products include Renewal by Andersen and Pella Windows.

“Homeowners can be proactive when it comes to conserving energy and money,” said Madelynne Sansevere, marketing manager for Pella Windows and Doors.

“With a little research and product comparison, homeowners who make improvements in their home can realize substantial savings,” Sansevere said.

In addition to savings from home show pricing offered by many of the companies exhibiting at the Ocean County Home & Remodeling Show, homeowners often are able to realize savings from utility company incentives.

In this time of concern over high energy costs, Sansevere says incentives are motivating people to take energy-saving steps to reduce consumption. Many utility companies have added energy-efficient windows and doors to new furnaces and air conditioners on their lists of items eligible for standard rebates.

Pella’s ENERGY STAR-rated windows are solid wood construction with double-and triple-paned glazing to maximize energy efficiency. Optional Low-E glass coatings help reduce heat as well as ultraviolet (UV) rays that can fade carpet, walls and furniture.

The Ocean County Home & Remodeling Show also is a great place to see the most popular product trends in interior design.

“Granite, granite everywhere,” says Francine Lepore, assistant to the CEO at Benchmark Countertop Design Center in Lakewood.

“The popular trends are granite, marble and natural quartz. We’ll be featuring those as well as other hard surfaces.” Lepore said. “We also have Dupont Corian and Zodiac, which has a natural quartz surface.”

Quartz has similar attributes to granite in that it is less porous than other solid surfaces so it offers enhanced antibacterial qualities. While it looks like granite, it takes less maintenance.

“Marble in a natural polished finish is popular. We usually don’t suggest marble for kitchens unless you’re doing a small area because it is much more porous. But it works beautifully as a fireplace surround and in bathrooms,” Lepore said.

A new floor can add warmth as well as color to a room and the show offers a choice of flooring companies.

Doctor Peppers Flooring, Inc. on Mule Road in Toms River will display carpet samples along with a selection of hardwood floors and laminates.

“We will have samples of three-quarter-inch solid oak and maple as well as Brazilian cherry,” said Lisa Pepper, “and we are bringing a selection of laminated flooring including Pergo, Wilson Art and Mohawk.”

Flooring choices should depend on what’s going on in the room as well as the desired visual effect. Laminated floors offer a wider range of applications.

“They make some laminates that look like ceramic tiles but aren’t as cold to the touch. A lot of people put those in the kitchen,” Pepper said, adding that winter is the time to plan home renovations.

“It’s better to do it now if you want to have it done by summer,” she said.

The show’s celebrity guest, Doug Wilson, will make an appearance on Sunday, February 10th. A master of using intricate wall treatments and decorative painting techniques, Wilson is known for creating bold and powerful 21st Century designs.

“Doug’s imagination and his unique designs have earned him honors as one of House Beautiful Magazine’s Top 100 interior designers,” McLaughlin said. “He adds to the variety of this show and gets people using their imaginations.”

Located at 1245 Old Freehold Road, the Ritacco Center is convenient to Routes 37, 70 and the Garden State Parkway and offers plenty of free parking. (SEE MAC Events website, www.macevents.com for directions.)
