9th Annual Fall Rhode Island RV Show Opens Oct. 20 in Providence
Friday, November 3, 2006
PROVIDENCE, RI – Visitors to the 9th Annual Fall Rhode Island RV Show, which will run from Oct. 20 through Oct. 22 at the Rhode Island Convention Center, Providence RI will discover why so many families are taking their vacations over the open road.
“RV travel remains the most affordable way for families to vacation together and the Fall Rhode Island RV Show illustrates the breadth of modern recreational vehicles manufacturers are producing to address increasingly younger, family-oriented RV enthusiasts,” said show director James McLaughlin, president of MAC Events, the show’s producer. “This show draws New England’s top dealers and the exhibits cover everything from inexpensive pop-up camping trailers, travel trailers and fifth wheels to luxury diesel-pusher motorhomes and park models.”
The show will feature models from approximately 50 RV manufacturers including Jayco, Monaco, Canterbury, Crossroads, National Layton, Beaver, Airstream, Fleetwood, Winnebago and many others. Booth exhibitors cover every conceivable accessory as well a full range of services, including finance and insurance companies and campgrounds from throughout the East Coast.
“This is a great show to plan vacations and find campgrounds that accommodate your lifestyle and travel plans,” McLaughlin said. “Our show visitors will be the first people in the region to see many of the new 2007 models. Plus, dealers and manufacturers will be offering incentives and discounts on 2006 RVs to make room for their new inventories.”
The Fall Rhode Island RV Show will feature motorhome models designed for better gas mileage as well as road comfort and a huge variety of travel trailers built of lightweight materials that can be towed with sport utility vehicles or small pickup trucks.
Arlington RV’s Super Center, Inc. of East Greenwich will exhibit the Winnebago View, a class C motorhome that gets 17-to-19 miles per gallon, according to sales manager Mark Donilon.
“The way everybody is so gas conscious these days has helped make the View a popular model for us,” Donilon said. “One of the unique things about the View is that it is the only dual-rear-wheel motorhome built on a Sprinter chassis with a Mercedes diesel.”
The View, which accommodates two to four people and comes with a slideout, retails in the mid-$80,000s. “It comes fully equipped with generator, AC and a back-up camera,” Donilon said.
The demand for travel trailers remains strong as the audience of RV enthusiasts continues to be younger, with more people who still have children living at home, and more cost conscious. The number of travel trailers shipped was up 27.8% for the first four months of this year. That was more than twice the growth of overall RV shipment through April. The industry appears to be on its way to its second best year since 1978, according to the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA).
Bradford Trailer Sales will exhibit Excel fifth wheel travel trailers, a new line for the Brockton, MA, dealership. “For the last five year the Excel has earned a five-star rating from RV Consumer Digest and it’s the only fifth wheel to get that rating. This is a high-end fifth wheel and they only make 380 of them a year,” said sales manager Dallas Ainsley. “It has an all-fiberglass roof and Excel makes its own frames and doors. Their manufacturing facilities are state of the art.”
The Excel features a hydraulic four-way leverage system you would expect to find on a luxury motorhome and it relies on an air-ride suspension system with an onboard compressor for s smooth ride. “You can get them with a fireplace and all of the Excel models come with a built-in satellite system with hookups in the living room and the bedroom,” Ainsley said. Available in models from 30-to-36 feet with MSRPs ranging from $72,000 to $110,000, the Excel rarely is discounted. “However, we will offer discounts of up to 10% on both models in stock as well as units ordered at the show,” the sales manager said.
Bradford Trailer Sales also will exhibit new 2007 models from Cedar Creek as well as the new Raptor, which Ainsley said is the best-selling fifth-wheel toy hauler in US. Improvements include the ability to incorporate your iPod into the RV’s stereo system.
Arlington RV also will exhibit Outback travel trailers by Keystone in models from 21-to-31 feet. “The smaller Outback models can be towed by an SUV. It’s made of fiberglass and is available with slideouts. It also has an enclosed underbelly so it can be used year round. That’s one of the most popular models for us,” Donilon said
The 9th Annual Fall Rhode Island RV Show will be open Friday, Oct. 20, from 1:00-to-9:00 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
