13th Annual Fall South Jersey RV Show Opens Oct. 27 in Atlantic City

Exhibitors represent more than 90 RV manufacturer brands
1st look at many new 2007 RVs, big discounts on 2006 models
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – The 13th Annual Fall South Jersey RV Show will reflect the continued strength of demand for family travel in recreational vehicles when it fills the city’s Convention Center with hundreds of RVs representing 90 brands for its three-day run Oct. 27 through October 29.
The only late-season RV show in southern NJ, the Fall South Jersey RV Show features the latest models of travel trailers, fifth-wheel models, motorhomes and park models from manufacturers that include Jayco, Monaco, Canterbury, Crossroads, National, Layton, Beaver, Airstream, Fleetwood and Winnebago and many others. Booth exhibitors include finance, accessory and service companies and campgrounds from throughout the East Coast.
Dealers from throughout the region are taking advantage of the show to move out 2006 inventory and make space for the new 2007 models that have just begun arriving.
“This is a huge show and it will mark the regional and East Coast introduction of some of the 2007 models,” said show director James B. McLaughlin, president of MAC Events, the show’s producer. “It also represents a great opportunity for consumers to take advantage of dealer and manufacturer incentives on 2006 models. While we always have a strong showing of high-end luxury motorhomes in the fall show, consumers will find a selection of park models, travel trailers, fifth-wheels, campers and pop-up camping trailers. No matter what your budget or level of RV experience, you’ll appreciate the choices at the Fall South Jersey RV Show.”
Exhibitors cover a broad range of the latest RV models and innovations.
A large variety of motor homes from luxury class A diesel pushers to the new class C Fleetwood Tioga on a Ford V10 Chassis. Loaded with comfort features and storage space for extended travel, the Tioga comes in a choice of floorplans and lists for $85,000.
The new 35 SS Seneca by Jayco being exhibited by Surf RV Center in Lakewood illustrates the growing diversity of RV uses.
“With a tow capacity of 15,000 pounds it appeals to a wide market but it’s especially popular with people who are into car racing and horses. It also appeals to long-distance RVers,” said Mark Ashley, president of Surf RV Center in Lakewood. The 35 SS has an MSRP ranging from $130,000 to $149,000 and that’s a good value for motor home of this size.”
The 35 SS Seneca is built on a Kodiak chassis and powered by Duromax diesel with an Allison transmission and comes with a leather interior and up to four slide-outs. It’s also is available in a toy hauler model.
Surf RV also will exhibit a selection of Jayco lightweight expandable motorhomes as well as Nomad park models, which it will deliver to the campground of your choice free of charge as a special show incentive.
“It’s the tail end of our selling seasons and we’re going to sell as much as we can at this show to clear out our inventory,” said Mark Ashley, president of Surf RV Center in Lakewood.
Colonial Airstream of Lakewood, NJ will introduce a new Airstream travel trailer, the BaseCamp, at the South Jersey Fall RV Show, according to James Lenzo, Colonial’s vice president.
This stylish trailer, a cooperative venture between Airstream and Nissan, was designed to be both low cost and flexible. Taking styling and content cues from the original Torpedo concept developed by company founder Wally Byam in the 1930s, the 2007 BaseCamp was designed to serve as a springboard for outdoor adventures rather than a living room on wheels. The attached tent extension, engineered by outdoor products giant Kelty, offers a lightweight way to double living space.
Most conventional vehicles can tow the ultra-light BaseCamp, 2,000 pounds when fully loaded. “While it has Airstream’s trademark aluminum skin, the BaseCamp has a very hip, low-profile look with a wraparound window that appeals to young RVers,” Lenzo said. “The price, less than $20,000, also will appeal to first-time RVers and young families.”
The demand for travel trailers remains strong as the audience of RV enthusiasts continues to be younger and include more people with children still living at home. The number of travel trailers shipped was up 27.8% for the first four months of this year. That was more than twice the growth of overall RV shipment through April. The industry appears to be on its way to its second best year since 1978, according to the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA).
The show’s booth exhibitors will offer a wide range of RV services and accessories, including campgrounds from throughout the East Coast.
“This is a great show to plan vacations and find campgrounds that accommodate your lifestyle and travel plans,” McLaughlin said. “Industry studies this year have found that even with higher gas prices, RVers continue to take to the road but they are planning trips closer to home with longer stays in individual campgrounds.”
With more than 16,000 campgrounds nationwide, RVers have the flexibility to save fuel and reduce travel times by staying closer to home. In a recent survey 45 percent said they were reducing the distances they travel while 52% reported they are spending more time in one place, according to the RVIA, which represents the manufacturers of more than 95% of the RVs made in the US. “This latest research confirms what we found in the survey during the summer of 2005 — higher gas prices won’t stop RVers from traveling, but they will make adjustments,” said Richard Coon, president of RVIA.
The 13th Annual Fall South Jersey RV Show will be open Friday, Oct. 27, from noon to 7:00 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Sunday, Oct. 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

RVIA Campfire Canvass Highlights
(Biannual survey of RV owners released in May 2006)
Almost 70 percent of RVers planned to be on the road during the summer holidays of Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.
Camping is the favorite activity families will enjoy during their upcoming RV trips. Taking scenic drives (72 percent) and hiking/walking (67 percent) also ranked high on the list of favorite activities of RVing families.
Sitting around the campfire at RV parks and campgrounds does more than take the chill out of the night air. Eighty percent said RVing strengthens family bonds. Nearly 73 percent said that going RVing has resulted in a closer relationship with their spouse.
More than half of all RVers also said they’d enjoy outdoor activities and sports. In fact, two-thirds of the respondents said they are more physically active on RV trips than on other vacations.
Ninety-one percent of respondents said their RVs will allow them to take more weekend trips or mini-vacations this summer. This is ideal for busy families looking for ways to accommodate their hectic everyday schedules with a balance of fun, physical activity and freedom.
